My goal for 2012 is to read (at least) 45 books and review them all on this blog. I review every single of the books (except classics – in these cases readers should not consider them as reviews but my sorry opinion in a reviewish from) to not forget. To force myself to reflect on the aspects of the writing, characterisation, plot, etc. and that’s because I’m a writer. Reading is a hobby but also something I do to learn how to write myself. You may think I’m just cruel for slaughtering writers of young adult fiction (because I do that a lot), but it’s 75 % learning by reading and 25 % cruelty… right, 70 %/30 % then.
All reviews are written by me and are therefore my intellectual property. Quotes (if I use any) from other writers’ works are property of their creators. Descriptions are taken from the back of the books or from Goodreads (in the case of Danish books). In cases where no description in English could be found, they are translated (poorly) by me and that will be noted. Unless otherwise stated, all photographs are taken by me. Layout is created by the person linked in the layout itself, dots for the ratings system is made by me, as is the font used for the Header and in all images.
If you want to make fun of my first editions of all reviews, head over to my profile on Goodreads where you can follow my progress and see what I’m reading right now and what I’m going to read. The ratingssystem on this website is the same as the one on Goodreads and is as follows (with a description of my own interpretation of the ratings:
(didn’t like it)
Not only did I not like it, I loathe it. It is despicable. It may just be certain aspects of the book or it may be the entire thing, but something about this book was enough to make me a giant squid of anger. Expect lots of swearing, lolspeak and Caps Lock in reviews.
(it was okay)
This is pretty much ‘meh’. I may really, really hate aspects of this, but some aspects of it were good enough to make me like it well enough. Expect mild anger and irrational, childish behaviour.
This is a decent enough book. I’m not jumping for joy, but I’m most certainly happy and will want to read more by the same writer. Certain aspects are serious enough to put me off a bit, though, and while I like it, it won’t have me turning pages.
(really liked it)
A proper decent book. I was highly entertained while reading and only a few minor details prevented me from giving the book a five. Expect me to struggle with reviews of books this good – I really suck at writing positive reviews.
(it was amazing)
I am speechless (what a relief to you all!) – this is pure, golden genius in written form. I am jumping up and down and giddy and having read it, I refer to all characters as though they were old friends. Also, this review is going to suck chestnuts.
